His intricate Latin illustration depicts a design from an ancient illuminated manuscript. Historically a manuscript from the Middle Ages such as this would have had a gold background however this Smalt blue & Clover green colour geometric mosaic work alludes to the Romanesque period (11th century) a style which grew out of the Byzantine Era. Commonly known for the arrangement of small diamond shaped pieces of glass that merged into a series of diagonal lines this rhombus pattern seems almost like tiny openings which led to this print being named FENESTRAS the latin name for windows.
Sourced from Calcutta India this original 1856 print is transferred onto a beige poly velvet fabric with a stunning mossy green velvet on the back and balanced out with a dull champagne-hue twisted rope fringe FENESTRAS is here to be a great addition to your chair or sofa.
