About the Founder
If these walls could talk…”, truly, what would they say?
Armed with a love for art and the imagination of a storyteller, Founder & Creative Director Devika Kanadé has always considered the journey and provenance of things she surrounds herself with.
For her, a piece thrifted, bought or created isn’t just that but a story to envision, a tale being told; what purpose did the object serve, and to whom? How many generations got the opportunity to live with it? Was it a gift to be treasured or a memory to be forgotten?
Nothing is without its past, and if it is, for her it’s simple, a history missing is a story in the making. Having lived, studied and worked in Mumbai, London, New York, and LA, Devika spent her teenage years and twenties bouncing from city to continent, setting up her home time and again. Eager to avoid the clutches of homesickness, she carefully layered each house with art, textiles, and thrifted objects to turn a seemingly temporary house, into a lived-in, welcoming home.
She pursued her Undergraduate Degree in Fashion Styling and Photography in the UK, following that with a Master’s Degree in Costume Studies and History at New York University. It was then that she began appreciating interior decorating and noticed a beautiful overlap with fashion, culture and interiors.
Her ability to decorate her spaces with meaning and intention was realized in the care and knowledge she injected into the curation of every last item she surrounded herself with, allowing each piece it’s mantle to tell it’s story, giving each home an inherent touch of nostalgia. Origin of Us
She started conceptualizing The Itihāas Company in 2019, intent on creating a boutique maximalist home and lifestyle brand, combining history with interiors- allowing stories to be retold, and objects to be reinvented so that the pieces of the past live on in people’s homes.
