Originating from an Illuminated manuscript during an age when mosaic ornamentation was heavily influenced by the Byzantine craftsmen and their works in fields like architecture using such patterns helped in spreading various Byzantine styles of ornamentation to many parts of Europe. The CYANEA cushion is a fun three tone pattern that balances perfectly with the Bengal Wine coloured back and simple piping all around to elevate your space with a pop.
Sourced in Calcutta India this original 1856 illustration by Owen Jones is a great example of his 10th fundamental principle of design “Harmony of form consists in the proper balancing and contrast of the straight, the inclined and the curved.” (Grammar of Ornament 1856)
